A good sized fragment of brocaded silk with a pattern of peonies and chrysanthemums, WxH 25,5x66cm.
Mounted on a wooden stretcher, ready for display.
The design is made with the use of 8 different colours on a yellowish-beige background. There are several textiles in the collection of the Forbidden City that show a similar colour scheme and are described as Ming.
This fragment is in general good condition. There is some fading to the weaker colours, there are some vague stains at the upper half but not disturbing and there is some slight separation of the threads in the upper half but also not disturbing. Altogether a fine piece that is not easy to find these days.
