A sandstone kang stone, used to close the oven's firing gate. Shanxi province, Gaoping or Changzhi county, 18th or 19th century. One side is decorated with a deer, the other side is plain. The undulating decoration around the rim and the keyfret at the base give it an exuberant look. The three flowers on the body of the deer are a nice detail. Dim.: WxDxH 36x22x32cm.
