Pair of southern official's hat chairs. Shanxi province, 2nd half 18th century. Elm with brown-purplish lacquer. Dim.: LxDxH 57x43x52/103 cm This pair had been repainted red which has been stripped off. The joints are strengthened with leather covers which are largely in place. The colum-shape supports under the armrests are replaced with one chair. The corners between the seat and the backrest have once been adorned with small ornaments which are missing. Waxed.
