Portrait of a woman. The colours used and bold details in the background are an indication that this is a rather late example within the tradition of ancestor paintings; it was probabely painted around 1900. Canvas, paneled and remounted on a scroll. The face is painted on paper that has been glued onto the canvas. These so called "paper-pastes" were a common technique especially so in Shanxi province. The face, being the essence of the portrait, has been executed with much more attention and detail than anything around it. Condition: wear. folds and some spots where the paint has flaked off, especially in the purple field of the curtains, else good. LxW 201x81cm (scroll) / 119,5x65cm (painting. 675 euro
