A short bronze sword (so called „jian”) from the later part of the Warring States period, 4th-3th century B.C. This model sword with the two rings, the dish shaped pommel and the blade tapering towards the point is typical for the period. With a lenght of 54,5cm it is relatively long in it’s kind but in effect short as a sword. It was meant as a stabbing weapon in close combat. Swords from the Han period, just a century later in time, were considerably longer and evidence of the change in warfare and tactics. Good condition without repairs or damage. Mounted on a professional metal stand. Characteristics: bronze with a high copper content, explaining the predominant bright red oxidation. Relatively thin oxidation, at spots powdery copper oxide, at spots showing cacidation. Grinding marks in a 60 degree angle are clearly visible and conform techniques used at that time.
